At Greenhouse Studios, human-centered design is at the heart of what we do. Our experienced facilitators can help your teams collaborate on new projects, understand stakeholder needs, and scale up existing projects and initiatives.
We offer design thinking facilitation for collaborative research projects and university-wide initiatives both large and small, as well as for entrepreneurs and other external clients looking to better understand how they can meet customer needs.
We Can Help With

Scaling Up Existing Initatives
We have a suite of facilitation techniques that can help you figure out how to expand or “scale up” an existing project or initiative. For example, we recently conducted a scaling sprint for a brewing science course at UConn, which led to the establishment of UConn’s Brewing Innovation Initiative.

Project Innovation
Do you have a project idea that you would like to advance and bring to implementation? Our team has years of experience bringing project teams from early-stage ideation to successfully implemented interdisciplinary projects.

Understanding Stakeholder/Customer Needs
We can help you gain a deep understanding of your customer or stakeholder needs, as well as develop actionable steps to better meet those needs. We have worked with nonprofit institutions, academic and administrative units at UConn, as well as entrepreneurs looking to bring a new product to market.

Grant Writing
Since its inception, Greenhouse Studios has secured over $3 million in grant funding from federal agencies such as the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as from private foundations such as the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. Our experienced team can help you navigate all aspects of the grant writing process, including selecting an appropriate funding program, drafting a successful proposal, and the complexities of budgeting for different types of funders.

Strategic Planning
We can also assist with strategic planning, using tried and true design thinking strategies for early-stage ideation and decision making, as well as drafting a strategic planning document that will help your organization grow and develop.

Some of the Activities/Approaches We Offer Include:
Empathy Mapping
Gain a better understanding of the people you aim to serve and their specific needs – whether they be students, customers, stakeholders or partners – by mapping out the things they Say, Feel, Think and Do.
Headlines from the Future
Think about where you want your project or initiative to be 5 or 10 years from now. Imagining a future headline and testimonials from your stakeholders or customers can help your team look beyond early-stage challenges and focus on the end-goal.
Radically Different Project Visions
Imagine where your project can go given your current resources and constraints. Then imagine a radically different version of your project with unlimited resources and no constraints. Putting these project visions side-by-side can help you achieve the right balance between reasonable goals and “thinking big.”
