Welcome Back, Zoe!
As we begin a new semester at Greenhouse Studios, we asked both new and returning students to share a bit about themselves, their summer experiences, upcoming goals at GS, and broader career aspirations. These responses are from Zoe Orie, one of our SFA Undergraduate Research Assistants.
What do you hope to build upon from the previous year?
I hope to strengthen my creative problem-solving skills and become more confident in trying different/unique ideas. I also want to continue building my high-fidelity web design skills and learn how to prototype in Figma.
What has been significantly meaningful to your experience so far?
I really enjoy Treehouse and the community that it builds within Greenhouse. More specifically, I loved the window mural challenge and having the time to be creative with my team beyond a computer and the traditional tasks I’m used to.
What questions and curiosities do you have on your mind?
I’ve become very curious about design strategy and user research.
What do you want to be “when you grow up?” Put another way, what do you see your trajectory being after graduation? Would that trajectory be the same or different if you had no constraints and unlimited resources? (In this context, “constraints” and “resources” include skill sets and expertise.)
I want to work at an agency in New York City as a brand or UI/UX designer. If I had no constraints and unlimited resources, I believe my career goals would be the same. I’m always looking to learn more about both of these specialties, especially brand design, but I feel well-prepared and confident in my skills to work in either of these positions at an entry level.
What did you do over the summer? If you had an internship, do you feel that your work at Greenhouse Studios complemented your experience?
This past summer, I worked at Box 8 Creative, a branding agency in New Haven, CT as a Design Intern. I learned so much during my time there and realized that I have a passion for brand design and want to pursue opportunities in that specialty post-grad. In relation to Greenhouse, the collaboration skills I’ve gained helped me clearly express my ideas and contribute to the Box 8 team, which is pretty small and communicative. My experience working in teams in a place like Greenhouse that values the thoughts of everyone gave me the confidence to speak up and share my ideas at Box 8. Additionally, due to my web experience, I was able to contribute to their effort to improve website client processes and created an internal web accessibility guide, which was pretty cool.
What are you most excited to jump back into?
I’m most excited to jump back into Treehouse. I really enjoyed connecting with everyone last semester and found the activities we did during our meetings very valuable. I am looking forward to meeting everyone this year and continuing to work on my personal and professional development with the group! Additionally, I’m excited to work as a part of the Sourcery team and contribute to meetings and project ideation in person.
Are there any interests, hobbies, fun facts, or anything else that you would like to share about yourself?
Over the summer, I picked up yoga as a new hobby and have been loving it! Also, I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m very good at killing bugs mid-air.
