Welcome to the Team: Yuna Kim

Welcome, Yuna!

As we begin a new semester at Greenhouse Studios, we asked both new and returning students to share a bit about themselves, their summer experiences, upcoming goals at GS, and broader career aspirations. This responses is from Yuna Kim, one of our new SFA Graduate Research Assistants.

Hello everyone! My name is Yuna Kim, and I am currently pursuing an MFA in Digital Media & Design at the University of Connecticut, with a focus on 3D motion and interactive media design. This semester, I’m also teaching a course on 3D Virtual Worlds and Simulations, where I get to explore the exciting world of virtual environments and real-time game engines with my students.

As I begin my journey at Greenhouse Studios, I’m thrilled about the opportunity to collaborate with a talented and interdisciplinary team. The collaborative environment at Greenhouse is something I’m particularly excited about because it provides a space where creative minds from different backgrounds can come together, exchange ideas, and push the boundaries of how we engage with the humanities. I hope to work on diverse projects that challenge me to solve problems creatively while contributing something meaningful. Being part of such a dynamic, cross-functional team is an exciting prospect, and I look forward to seeing where our collective creativity will take us.

During my time here, I want to immerse myself in projects that allow me to grow and expand my skillset. I’m eager to be constantly inspired by those around me and to contribute to an environment where creativity thrives and is mutually motivating. At Greenhouse Studios, I see an opportunity to refine my research and collaboration skills, which will be invaluable as I continue my career in the creative industry. My long-term goal is to work as a professional 3D and interactive designer, blending my technical expertise with innovative research practices in a collaborative setting—whether that’s at a creative agency or within a research-oriented organization.

At the heart of my work is a curiosity about how art and technology can come together to create experiences that not only engage people but also foster understanding and empathy in society. I’m always looking for new ways to merge these two worlds, and Greenhouse Studios feels like the perfect place to explore this intersection.

Outside of my academic and professional pursuits, I enjoy watching inspirational visual works, practicing my 3D skills, and catching up on Netflix and animations. I also love cooking, hanging out with friends, playing board games, and getting out into nature whenever I can. I’m looking forward to making the most of my time here at UConn, both in the classroom and beyond.

I can’t wait to see what this academic year brings and how our collaborative efforts at Greenhouse Studios will help shape the future of creative research and digital media design!
