Welcome Back: Jin Liu

Hi there, this is Jin Liu. I am a MFA candidate in Digital Media and Design department at the University of Connecticut, where I also serve as a Research Assistant at Greenhouse Studios.

This is my second year working at Greenhouse Studios, and I am much more comfortable with the workflow and content. This semester I will continue to work at Greenhouse studios to follow up on the projects that didn’t finish last semester (Charles VR and Courtroom600), also I will catch up on my MFA project. Last year’s experience made me pick up Unity3d again, and I hope that my practice with VR and motion cameras in Charles VR will help me with my final project. At Greenhouse Studios I have access to humanities projects and local artists’ projects, which has given me a deeper understanding of projects from initiation to implementation. Once I had only learned about it, being involved in it really makes a difference.

I have a great passion for contemporary art. I believe that the intrinsic artistic value of a work requires the combined effort of the viewer, the participant and the creator. I intend to create artwork with a mindset of exploring the unknown and extending the senses, while I am committed to innovating forms of perception and communication with participants in my projects.

Starting in 2018, my explorations range from understanding and accepting my “origin”, to human-to-human and human-to-world communication, to examining the boundaries of freedom, virtual digital identity, and more. My works are mainly interactive installations, narrative games and interactive films. Now I am exploring the possibilities of “immersive” as a form of effective communication between participants and creators. I focus on how to create an emotional connection with the participants during the experience. In particular, on an immersive level, as a sensory expansion that allows players to express themselves through the game. At the same time, I also wanted to create a platform where players could contribute their own unique ideas to the game content through their own play process, achieving an alternative communication through time and space.
