My name is Lauren Harland and this year will be my third year at UConn and second year at Greenhouse Studios. Over the next year, I’m looking forward to continuing the coursework for my Business Strategies concentration to dive into the more technical, business-focused aspects of design and marketing. While I’m most familiar with and excited by the creative side of design, learning how to use it effectively in a business setting is an important part of my future career goals.
Alongside this coursework, I’m looking forward to starting my Industrial Design minor in hopes of learning more hands-on design practices and improving my problem solving and creative thinking skills.
This year on campus I will also be involved in the Undergraduate Student Government as a graphic designer where I’ll work with teams of students with diverse skill sets, backgrounds, and interests to advocate for the UConn student body. So far, I’ve been able to work on the Husky Market initiative, which combats food insecurity on the Storrs campus. This project has been incredibly rewarding and will positively impact many undergraduate students.
After graduation, I see myself gaining experience in marketing, graphic design, and brand identity in hopes of eventually becoming a Creative Director or Marketing Director at a large corporation.

With my time at Greenhouse Studios I hope to continue to work as a part of collaborative creative teams. I love designing graphics and creative assets but would like to also branch out into roles that would help me to prepare for a future career as a creative director. I think the skills that are important for me to focus on learning are leadership and project management.
My favorite projects I have been able to work on so far at Greenhouse Studios are Land Grab CT and Greenhouse Studios Brand Strategies. With Land Grab CT, I enjoyed being able to help shape the visual identity and strategy of such an impactful and important project. As a part of Greenhouse Studio’s brand strategies team, I most enjoyed working with such a fun and hardworking group of people.

In my free time I like to gather art and design inspiration, play the guitar, meet new people, and explore various artistic outlets.
